Real Emotion — featuring the singles “Balconies,” Laugh About It, Chariots and Writing On The Wall — was released September 23rd on RAL/Sony Music Ent. “Balconies” is impacting Alternative radio now with early spins in Nashville, Denver, San Diego and Kansas City, and more jumping on board. Charged with the raw energy that PAPER ROUTE has revealed in touring the world with bands like Imagine Dragons, Passion Pit, Paramore and Mutemath, Real Emotion achieves that feeling in part by making guitars central to its intricately crafted arrangements.

“Paper Route set out to create an album that would evoke a sense of nostalgia, a more mature piece of music than they would have created as teenagers…Real Emotion delivers an album that marries complexity and simplicity, tried-and-true songwriting and unconventional song structure, as well as emotional highs and lows.”
THE HUFFINGTON POST, 8/29/16

If you aren’t on the Paper Route tip, you should get familiar…Their blend of indie pop, alternative rock, and electronic stylings is refreshing and seamless, showcasing their bravado and ability to create a diverse and engaging record…”
EARMILK, 6/10/16

Nashville-based alt-rock trio PAPER ROUTE have released their third full-length album, titled Real Emotion, today (9/23) on Kemosabe Records/Sony Music Ent. Blending digital-age pop/rock with ambient vocals, the 16-track album — produced and written by JT Daly (vocals, keyboards, percussion), Chad Howat (bass, piano, programming), Nick Aranda (guitar) — is available now on all digital platforms and as a double vinyl (purchase links below).

To celebrate, PAPER ROUTE hosted an album release party last night (9/22) in Nashville, where they played an intimate stripped down performance of new songs, featuring members of the Blood Orchestra. The performance was live streamed on their Facebook and took place inside an art installation the band conceived and built based on the lyrics and imagery of their new album. More info on the creation of the band’s installation below.

Real Emotion — featuring singles Laugh About It, Chariots, Balconies and Writing On The Wall — marks the band’s third full-length album and first with Kemosabe Records/Sony Music Ent. PAPER ROUTE’s current single “Chariots” is at Alternative radio nationwide, premiered at E3 this summer as the official track for the FIFA 17 – Official Gameplay Trailer (over 6 million views) and has been featured on three of Spotify’s top playlists New Noise, Indie Pop and FIFA 17 Soundtrack. The band partnered with BAEBLE MUSIC (8/11) to premiere their animation lyric video for “Chariots.

With Real Emotion, the band’s creative vision didn’t end with the music. When the time came to select artwork for the album cover, main lyricist and frontman JT Daly, a lifelong artist, found visual inspiration from the themes emerging within the new music. Using mixed materials–prints, paint, and items such as an old TV, cassette boombox radio, playing cards, flowers and a bowl of pill capsulesDaly and his longtime collaborative art partner Micah Bell crafted an immersive art installation, with all surrounding walls and floor draped with several individual pieces, each inspired by a track off Real Emotion. The album cover is a photograph of PAPER ROUTE actually inside the room installation. Video clip documenting the making of the art installation here: https://youtu.be/4twWuPH0krg.

“The album title, Real Emotion, comes from a conversation I had with author David Dark about mental health,” Daly explains. “How it can be embarrassing when those closest to you witness the real you, and the struggle of balancing everyday life. How it might almost seem fake but it is very real. It’s a real emotion. The album art is a visual expression of these emotions.”

PAPER ROUTE first conjured up their melody-driven take on electronic-leaning alt-rock back in 2004. Over the next few years, the band split their time between touring with arena-filling acts like Paramore and sharing smaller stages with the likes of Thurston Moore and Mark Kozelek (their fellow performers at SXSW 2008’s Lou Reed tribute show). Charged with the raw energy that PAPER ROUTE has revealed in touring the world with bands like Imagine Dragons, Passion Pit and Mutemath, Real Emotion achieves that feeling in part by making guitars central to its intricately crafted arrangements.

PAPER ROUTE will support the new album on their 17-date headlining tour (THE REALLY EMOTIONAL TOUR) kicking off October 27th in Baton Rouge, LA featuring support from Halfnoise (Zac Farro’s solo project). The national run will include several stops in TexasDallas, Houston and Austin–as well as St. Louis, Chicago, Minneapolis, DC, Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Atlanta and Orlando, before coming to a close in the band’s hometown of Nashville. Today (8/11), Nashville-based alternative rock trio PAPER ROUTE premiered an official animation lyric video for “Chariots, the second single off their much-anticipated third full-length album, titled Real Emotion, set for release September 23rd on Kemosabe Records/Sony Music Ent. Click here to watch the new video for “Chariots, which premiered exclusively on Baeble Music. The band revealed their new album’s release date to fans via their weekly Facebook Live session this past Sunday (8/7).

Beginning this Tuesday (8/16), fans will be able to pre-order Real Emotion on PAPER ROUTE’s webstore and on iTunes for $7.99, with the first instant grat track–titled “Balconies”–to be released on September 2nd.

“Chariots”–available now on all digital platforms (links below)–was chosen as the exclusive track for the FIFA 17 – Official Gameplay Trailer (which premiered at E3 2016) and was recently added to two of Spotify’s top playlists: Indie Pop! and New Noise. “Chariots, which impacts Alternative radio nationwide beginning August 22nd, is already receiving early airplay.

‘Chariots’ is a song we couldn’t be more proud of,” bassist Chad Howat shares. “It’s a bit of everything we’ve always strived to do condensed into a few minutes: a manic beat, glow-of-the-halo atmospherics, and a deeply personal, but simple, lyric. If this isn’t the cornerstone to our new album, then it’s at least the apex.” Frontman JT Daly adds, “In love, no one is innocent and at some point we all ask ourselves, ‘what am I fighting for?’ ‘Chariots’ is a song about this friction. The collision of what we want and what we need – amounting to who we really are. I’m not saying there’s a right or wrong answer here, but I am saying it’s a blood spilled battle. This battle has been brought to life.”

The single was first introduced on the influential music blog EARMILK, who declared, “If you aren’t on the Paper Route tip, you should get familiar…Their blend of indie pop, alternative rock, and electronic stylings is refreshing and seamless, showcasing their bravado and ability to create a diverse and engaging record…Chariots’ an invigorating orchestration of frenetic rhythm, soaring vocals, and captivating chord progressions that straddle you in and take you on an exhilarating 4:36-minute ride.” (6/10/16)

Next month, PAPER ROUTEJT Daly (vocals, keyboards, percussion), Chad Howat (bass, piano, programming) and Nick Aranda (guitar)–will announce a 25+ date U.S. tour in support of the new album. The band has previously toured with Imagine Dragons, Passion Pit, Paramore and Mutemath.

Much like they did for their 2012 LP The Peace Of Wild Things, when it came time to begin working on the new album the band moved into a cabin deep in the hills of Middle Tennessee that they dubbed North House, set up a makeshift studio, and spent a month dreaming up material for their third album. As a band that thrives equally on intense collaboration and solo experimentalism–a dynamic that’s shaped their lavishly textured, beat-heavy alt-rock for more than a decade–the isolated quarters provided a perfect breeding ground for PAPER ROUTE’s ever-evolving creativity.

As a result, PAPER ROUTE has carved out a vital new sound that closely reflects their purity of intention. “Making this album, we really chased the feeling we all had back when we were just beginning to discover the wonder of music,” Daly explains. “That feeling I can still remember from taping ‘Champagne Supernova’ on my boombox when it debuted on the radio, that’s what we wanted to get into these songs.” Charged with the raw energy that PAPER ROUTE has revealed in touring the world with bands like Imagine Dragons, Passion Pit, Paramore and Mutemath, Real Emotion achieves that feeling in part by making guitars central to its intricately crafted arrangements.

Odegard–the 19-year-old producer from Syracuse, Utah–has been steadily gaining momentum on account of his refreshingly innovative remixes and may be one of the youngest producers/DJs to receive support from acts such as Major Lazer, Krewella, Jack Ü and Baauer. In 2015, he made his festival debut at Mysteryland USA after winning the festival’s “Collaborate with Bro Safari” competition, rewarding him with the opportunity to play a set on the Woodstock grounds and work an original song with Bro Safari. Odegard also officially remixed “Dream” from Imagine Dragons, which was chosen as the theme for ESPN‘s 2015 College Football.

This month, PAPER ROUTEJT Daly (vocals, keyboards, percussion), Chad Howat (bass, piano, programming), Nick Aranda (guitar)–will perform “Laugh About It” as well as preview tracks off the new album during a short run of California dates, including: June 20th at The Echo in Los Angeles, June 21st at Soda Bar in San Diego and June 23rd at Popscene in San Francisco.

“We like to work within the limitations that come with being far away from everything,” says Daly. “It keeps us uncomfortable in a way that ends up being really inspiring.” Howat continues, “Living in the North House, there was an intimacy that isn’t possible in real life. I could be working on a song and hear something through the walls, and that would give me a whole new idea about what I’m doing. We were able to hunker down and just completely immerse ourselves in this shared experience.”

As a result, PAPER ROUTE has carved out a vital new sound that closely reflects their purity of intention. “Making this album, we really chased the feeling we all had back when we were just beginning to discover the wonder of music,” Daly explains. “That feeling I can still remember from taping ‘Champagne Supernova’ on my boombox when it debuted on the radio, that’s what we wanted to get into these songs.” Charged with the raw energy that PAPER ROUTE has revealed in touring the world with bands like Imagine Dragons, Passion Pit, Paramore and Mutemath the as-yet-untitled album achieves that feeling in part by making guitars central to its intricately crafted arrangements.

To coincide with the countdown to the new album, PAPER ROUTE has just launched a new weekly series on Facebook Live. Every Saturday at 1pm PT/4pm ET, JT, Chad and Nick will chat with fans live via their Facebook page with each episode centering around a new song off the album, as well as overall thoughts on daily life, art, sports, current events, and fan submitted questions. Check out the debut episode where the band discusses the new song “Chariot” here.
