MULTINATIONAL INDIE POP/ROCK BAND
Multinational indie pop/rock band NIGHT LIGHTS has just released their new single “Things We Used To Know,” today, March 3 . The track advances the Los Angeles-based band’s forthcoming EP, Good Better Alright , set to drop early April.
“Things We Used To Know” exclusively premiered on Live Nation’s music discovery site Ones To Watch , who called the song “a dynamic indie-pop anthem …one of those songs that you’ll find yourself singing and dancing along with after just a couple listens . Blending indie, pop, and a touch of rock , the track conjures up a healthy fusion of the band’s musical influences, Mutemath, Two Door Cinema Club, Friendly Fires and Radiohead. Opening with a divine build-up leading into an explosive guitar-driven breakdown , Jimenez sings of the post mortem analysis of a serious romantic relationship.” (3/2/17)
Lead singer Mau Jimenez explains the inspiration for the track: “‘Things We Used To Know’ is an interesting look at breakups. It really sucks to lose someone, and even more so to lose sight of the reasons why you loved that person. At some point, you just forget the things that you used to swear by, the things you used to love. The song brings up the question — Do we get to choose the things we love? Or do the things we love happen upon us and depend on what we remember?”
With members from Mexico, Japan, Norway and California , NIGHT LIGHTS brings together an eclectic assortment of indie, rock, and soul influenced sounds in an effort to make people dance and feel feelings. The band– Mau Jimenez (vocals/guitar), Yusuke Sato (guitar), Jeff Kinsey (bass) and Dag Hanken (drums)–met in 2012 while attending school in Boston, and have since discovered a balance of profound lyrics , hooky melodies , danceable music and intriguing harmonic progressions .
In early 2016, NIGHT LIGHTS released a series of singles, “Childish,” “Gimme” and “Take My Hand,” which earned the band praise from several music outlets, such as EarMilk, PopMatters, Baeble Music, Indie Shuffle, All Things Go, Music Times, and many more. Shortly after being released, “Childish” made its way into both the Viral 50 Global and Viral 50 U.S. Spotify charts , and has been played over 570,000 times on the platform. The band’s challenges and experiences as immigrants working in the U.S. as artists and maintaining their proper visas has been shared on PRI’s “The World” and LA Weekly , among other places.
NIGHT LIGHTS continues to add live shows to their schedule. Their next show will take place Friday, March 10 to a sold out crowd at the iconic Roxy Theater in Los Angeles ; they’ll play support for Mako . They’re also scheduled to perform Friday, March 31 at AMPLYFi Hollywood , opening up for The Score .
